Being “busy” can destroy your ability to get things done. Let me say that again…

Being “busy” can destroy your ability to get things done.

How many people do you know who are so busy being busy that they never seem to get anything worthwhile done? Does that describe you, maybe even just a little bit?

Being busy all the time, through necessity, is a curse. Being busy all the time, for the sake of it, is just sheer madness.

Continual busy-ness eventually leads to stress, particularly if results are minimal. You see, it will get to a point where something has to give way. It’s like filling a balloon with air. Eventually no more air will fit inside the balloon and it will do the only thing it can. It will burst.

It’s OK to have busy periods through each day, each week, each month and each year. However, you also need time to relax. Time to re-charge the batteries.

People who are continuously busy over long periods suffer from two main problems:

1 – they have difficulty saying “no” to anyone
2 – they have difficulty delegating tasks to others

Let’s look at each in turn.

First, those who cannot say “no.” I have a saying: “You can’t save the entire world.” No matter how good your intentions are, you cannot be everything to everyone.

Make a list of those who need and DESERVE your time. They are the ones you should give priority to. Anyone else comes next – if you have the time to spare.

A wise man once said, “work always expands to fit available time.” It’s true. But it is only true if you ALLOW it to happen.

You can always do the odd favor for someone on the odd occasion. Learn to say no in a nice way. Here is one such way: “If I get all my own work done, I will consider your request.” What does that really say? It says your work is important. If you get it done you will help. Naturally, if you cannot get it done you cannot help. It’s a soft way of saying no. Usually the asker will then go and find another person to ask.

By saying no you actually help other people to grow. Imagine if you always said yes to tying up your daughter’s shoe laces. If you never said no she would still be asking you to do it at twenty years of age. By saying no you make her learn to do it for herself. Remember the old saying about giving a hungry person a fish to eat versus teaching the hungry person how to catch their own fish to eat? well…

… there are some people in this world who not only want you to PROVIDE the fish but they want you to scale it, clean it, cook it and serve it up to them for dinner with a side salad. And if they don’t like it they will complain to you. Do you know those type of people? I do. We all do.

By saying no we can free up more time for ourselves and those who need or deserve our time the most. Do not become a slave to the wants and demands of others.

Turning to the second problem, delegation – learn to enlist others to perform tasks that they are better equipped, or have more time, to do.

If you run all over the place attempting to do everything yourself you will never have sufficient time to do anything properly. Delegation is the art of a true leader. The secret to successful delegation is to build the importance of the task into the mind of the person you are delegating it to. Then, when they do it, thank them and praise them sincerely for the things they did well.

Don’t ever think you are irreplaceable, PARTICULARLY at your employment. Somebody gave me a definition once of irreplaceability in the workforce. It went something like this: “Get a bucket of water, roll up your sleeve and thrust your arm into the water. Now pull your arm out. The time it takes for the water to settle back into position will be about the same time it will take to replace you!”

Learning to say no and being able to delegate will allow you to perform the tasks you really want to do and really need to do yourself at a much higher level of proficiency.

AL Williams wrote a book called “All You Can Do is All You Can Do But All You Can Do is Enough!” (ISBN: ). Catchy title, isn’t it?

In his book, Williams says: “Don’t worry about things you can’t change. Focus on making your part of the world better, because when they click your lights out for the last time, you can’t have any regrets.”

Like I said earlier – you can’t save the whole world. Don’t even try.

If you want to be more productive, try to re-organize the way you plan your time. You can do this by:

- making a list of things requiring your attention,
- prioritizing the list,
- doing essential things first, non-essential things last,
- after every third task, rewarding yourself in some small way,
- continuing to work your way through the list in sets of three.

At the end of the day review your list. This is important because it will allow you to see how MUCH you have done and achieved. I do this all the time! Achievement will drive you forward to more achievement.

So, now you don’t have to be busy, busy, busy and get little done. You can just be busy achieving what you want.

It's been over a month since a made my last blog post and shame on me! I have already broken one of my new year's resolutions, which was to make a blog post at least once a week. Well I am going to make it up to you over the next month or two.

The purpose of this post is NOT about just giving away the FREE 50 page eBook. You see I can give you (and will!) all the free books, video, audios and other information in the world (in fact I am going to do that for my valued readers but more of that later!).In fact, I can give you all the training and material I have ever taken myself but the likelihood is that many would still not have the success they aspire to because you are missing one valuable piece of the jigsaw. So what is that missing piece? That illusive quality and characteristic that separates the highly successful from the rest?

1. Is it INTELLIGENCE?

Absolutely NOT! Whatever your background and standing now your intelligence has nothing to do with the level of success you can achieve. Skills can be taught or outsourced to somebody else and they most successful people in the world do not have the greatest IQs.

2. Is it DESIRE?

You maybe surprised to hear me say -  again absolutely not! Sure desire is essential to drive you forward but most people have a burning desire to make it BIG online but that is not enough to propel them to the level of success they want. It must be something else.

3. Is it TIME?

Although people will readily make the excuse that they haven’t enough time to breakthrough and achieve the success they want this is not the reason for success or otherwise. If you have the burning desire you will find and make the time through good time management. We all have the same amount of time in the day and we all make choices to how we spend it. Sure initially, some may have less disposable time then others but you cannot let that become an excuse as to why you fail. If you accept that “excuse” you may as well stop trying as that will always be the case and you will never succeed at anything you want to pursue until you remove that obstacle.

4. Is it PLANNING?

There is a common phrase or quotation (can’t remember who by!) that goes along these lines:-

“An imperfect plan executed today …
… will far exceed a perfect plan never carried out!”

Sure, planning is important but you don’t have to get this 100% right to make progress and to achieve success. In the end a plan is important in that it  starts to develop success habits that are so important on the path to success but it is not the main reason why people succeed.

5. Is it ACTION?

Well Yes(and no!) Action is the key factor in achieving success. But not just any old action! It has to be highly targeted, focused and measurable action. You see action on it’s own without feedback is potentially just mis-directed action and gets us nowhere. You’ve no doubt heard the saying:

“The definition of an idiot is someone who does the same thing again and again but expects to get different results!”.

But many of us do that sort of think unknowingly. Now that is not the sort of action you want to be doing  You want to measure and quantify the results you get from your actions to that you can make appropriate adjustments in your future actions so that you move towards your ultimate objective.

So you need to have the DESIRE …. to set aside the TIME …. to carry out a PLAN that develops the HABITS …. that turns into focussed and measurable ACTION. That is the key to success!

Tony Shepherd has developed a wordpress plugin that will drop a cookie in your visitors browser.  As we know people are becoming a lot more savvy when it comes to affiliate links and they can recognise a cloaked link from a thousand yards.

I’ve been using it for the last week on my other niche sites and it work like a charm.

I made a small diagram just to show you how ridiculously easy it is to use this plugin. After loading and activating the plugin you will go to settings where you will see a new sub menu called Cookie Dropper Settings. As you can see from the picture below all you do is place your affiliate link into the first box and in the second box you choose the post that you are talking about the product.

In the pdf that comes with the plugin Tony does place emphasis “on using Cookie Fire in accordance with your affiliate programs terms and conditions”

whilst everyone talked about there new years resolutions 
 
you know the usual …
 
this year im hitting the gym to become buff and stuff …
 
… and to build that million dollar business online 

that line i hear way to many times …
so i did the total opposite, 
 
with good reason too …
 
I took the first week off in January to move from our 
small house into this new million dollar mansion,
 
here’s my wife making me breakfast at 2pm? 
 
go figure? 
 
 

 we’re renting this place for 6 months as I focus on my business.
then the second week of January I hit Vegas “hard”

Im a Product of my productivity – Alex Jeffreys

Incidentally, I didn’t take my laptop overseas this time because of all the security issues with taking it in and out of the case and through those damn security scanners. That was both good and bad. Good that it saved me a bunch of time – bad in that I just looked and I have 3,172 unread emails in just 1 week! Heh… heh… but I do have a whole bunch of ones that say: “Notification of Payment Received.” NICE!

Back to the topic of my discussion… the Alex Jeffreys Internet Marketing seminars in Las Vegas…

Now, from memory, I think it was 26 people who attended the Marketing With Alex 2.0 seminars last time. Those “saddling up” a second time were Alex Jeffreys (of course), my good mate Garry Parkes (of course), me (of course – DUH!), Dean “Tatts” Holland, Dan “the Mothman” Briffa, Adam Spiel, Ross Carrell, Rob Brookes, JT Martin and Jit Uppal. Mike Ottman was supposed to be with us all a second time also but, unfortunately, due to family reasons was a last minute withdrawal.

This year, in addition to those mentioned above, we also had – in NO particular order (and I am SORRY if I have missed anybody out!) – Stephanie Mulac (a speaker), Rodger Hyatt (invited guest), Vance Sova, Josh Bartlett, Joe Fier, Matt “the Wolfman” Wolfe, Marc “the Magician” Milburn, Marcus “Pass” Passey (yes – he is just as bad in REAL life – LOL), Dean Oram, Brad “the Zombie” Burnie, David Walker (our new food CRITIC!), Paul Wilson, Graeme Ashe, Daylynne Starr, Sue Worthington, Guy Hague, Jed (Clampett) Lamont, Anthony Smits, Dan Tredo, David Chamberlain, Glenn (John) Wayne, Rex (Spielsy’s buddy), Randy Koehler (invited guest), Jacqueline, Kadir, Graham Sutherland, Jean Shaw (far more beautiful “in the flesh” – don’t get any nasty ideas – her hubby Malcolm was also there LOL), Steve “the Singer” (God, you are LOUD mate! – who drifted over from Mike Filsaime’s events), Erylynne and Karen Woodward. [Late inclusion: I inadvertently missed out Rob Bradley - sorry Rob!]

So, what a motley crew! As usual, most of the “activity” centered around the bar – instead of the New York, New York bar from last time, this year our “pick up” joint (and MORE on THAT later! – oh dear…) was the Kokomos Bar, diagonally opposite the check-in counter at the Mirage Resort Casino where most of us stayed. I am absolutely certain that some JV partnerships were “born” there – LOL! Er… and some “other” alliances. Most notably, Parkesy (formerly Saint Parkes – it’s only a joke folks…) and I seemed to be in the THICK of it and the prime targets for the “ladies of the night.” Undoubtedly they saw us two as the suavest, most debonair and most sophisticated of the Gangsta’s peeps. Or… maybe we just looked like desperados, or something. (I always seem to “attract” this unwanted attention… I wonder why? Hmm. No doubt her Royal Purpleness will offer something here… what’s the bet?) So, Parkesy, if ya don’t want the attention DON’T hang out with YOU-KNOW-WHO!

Anyway, I SWEAR one woman spoke to me in words and terms that NO lady has EVER spoken to me before. OMG! Anyway, without belabouring the point I think (after the shock wore off – like about 1 minute) I returned fire as good as I got without sinking to the level that our new found friend “Lisa” descended to (pun intended). If that was her real name I’ll walk to New Orleans – as the song goes – next time. If there is a next time…

Anyway… backing up the truck a bit…

I got to Vegas on Thursday the 21st coz I had the furthest to fly – Perth to Sydney, Sydney to San Francisco (16 hours with 13 of those right next to an overweight mumma – lay off the extra fries darls – with a kid that SCREAMED non-stop – the LITTLE DARLING!) Holey-moley! Everyone in about a 30 seat radius was affected by this kid’s stentorian, maniacal and RELENTLESS screaming! Eff-me! Oh… then from Frisco to Vegas (can you tell I’m a seasoned visitor to the “States”? LOL) another thing happened…

… after being dead-dog tired and worn out by young Hercules AND having two Japanese women throw their gutses up in the seats in front of me upon landing in San Fran – an EXTRA 2 hours was added to our trip from SF to Vegas coz the weather had closed in. So, TWO MORE hours just sitting on the deck on the plane waiting for McCarran (Vegas airport) to open. Like I said before – HOLEY EFFEN MOLEY! Just what I needed huh?

Well, I arrived in Vegas, caught a cab to the hotel. It was p155ing down with rain and the cabbie’s vehicle had about an inch of water in the back seat foot well. Jokingly (though he FAILED to see the funny side of it) I asked him if he had a complimentary snorkel and a pair of flippers for me – maybe that was why we went the LONG way and it cost me $30! AND my feet were soaked!

So, I did a quick name check with the Concierge desk and determined that I was FIRST in. Hey! I’ll take any small victory.

Now, I know you are all gonna wanna know about the seminars but they were the “official” bits. Oh OK. Here’s a real quick round up…

Alex Jeffreys – good opening, quick howdy-doody… enough said.

Gazza Parkes was “Master of Ceremonies” introducing all the speakers – a sterling job Mister Parkes but, what else would we expect?

Stephanie Mulac – two sessions – both of them fantabulous! Steph spoke about looking after your list and gave some excellent tips and advice. I was scribbling madly (as usual!). Thanks for the credos from the stage too Steph. Much appreciated what you said coz I did do a lot of that stuff that you mentioned. I can’t seem to help myself. LOL!

The Jitster – great info on list-building and adswapping. Well done mate!

Stephanie and Rodger Hyatt (both JV buddies of mine) offered excellent advice to so many people who had questions. Thanks you two. You both fitted in so well. I’m sure the MWA studeys appreciated all your answers.

Now – the IMPORTANT bits…

the usual trolling through the casinos, eating drinking, drinking, drinking – did I mention DRINKING?! And being silly (which I’m pretty good at), the Mike Filsaime “events” at the MGM and the Tao nightclub, groups of people wandering off and others asking: “where has (Insert firstnamefix) got to?” congregating, networking, BS’ing and generally getting to know each other a lot better. That last part is a really important factor IMO. And then… the HIGHLIGHT of the trip (again in MY opinion – and ONLY coz I orgasmized it)…

12 lucky dudes (me included) got to go to the Las Vegas shooting range where we fired all sorts of machine guns (a “grease gun”,” some crappy Swedish machine gun that jammed more than it worked – hope nobody attacks the Swedes in a hurry if THAT is the best they’ve got! – a DELUXE M16 and an MPK-5, I think, from memory) PLUS the Israeli made Desert Eagle .50 cal handgun – KA-BOOM! Ohh… watch all the videos we all took folks. They will be ALL over the net soon! How AWESOME was that guys? Huh? I SERIOUSLY wanna do that AGAIN!

Anyway, all too soon it was again all over red rover and we all departed Viva Las Vegas all pumped up and ready to create havoc.

I wrote this little round up on the last leg of my journey back home – Sydney to Perth. No screaming kid on that one. Thank you GOD!

Well we're 23 days into the new year and things are progressing nicely. I have put some plans into motion and am moving towards some of those goals that I mentioned in my last post. That is, with the exception of making a weekly blog post. LOL

But that's OK. I am about to make up for that over the next few days. I am sitting in the West Palm Beach airport about to get on a plane for Atlanta and then on to Las Vegas. I am going to Alex Jeffreys second workshop and looking forward to meeting his new group of students.

Opps, looks like I am going to have to finish this in Atlanta, the plane is boarding.

Well, I didn't get to finish in Atlanta. We (my wife and I) got off the plane and by the time we got to the gate, the plane was boarding. Unfortunately, our bags didn't make the flight on time. So when we arrived in Las Vegas we had to wait until the next flight from Atlanta to get there and hour late.

(You'll have that sometimes. )

Any way, everything went OK after that. We checked in at the Mirage and met up with a bunch of my fellow students who got here early for Mike Filsaime's bash that started Friday. Gary Simpson, Garry Parkes, Dean Holland, Dan Briffa, David Walker, Marcus Passey, and Paul Wilson were among my fellow students sitting at the bar well on there way…

My wife and I checked in then had a few but didn't do much else. We had been up since 3am EST and with the 3 hour time change were feeling a little tired. We did get up for a bit and prowled the casino for a couple hours but turned in early.

I'm finishing this post in my hotel room as we get ready to go have some breakfast. Stay tuned for some more "Vegas updates" and some videos. Today we are going to see the sites and will probably swing by the MGM grand for Mike Filsaime's networking party at 6pm.

Some of the Alex Jeffreys gang is going to rent "exotic" cars and cruise the strip. I think I'll pass on that and spend the time with my wife. The workshop starts tomorrow. They'll be plenty of time to network with my felllow students.

I am tempted to go with a few of the guys who are going to shoot machine guns and assault rifles. We'll see what the wife thinks about that. Any way, it's all about having fun. My wife is from South America and a place like Vegas makes a big impression. I think I'll be taking lots of pics and videos today.

Well, the year has come to an end and I am looking forward to 2010. Not only is this a time for planning the upcoming year, but it's also a time of reflection when we look back at our accomplishments as well as our failures. I mention failures because they are just as important as our accomplishments.

Failures are the way we learn. My mentor, Alex Jeffreys, likes to call it failing forward. The important thing here is that you made the effort and took action. Thomas Edison literally had thousands of failures before he found the correct filament to create a working light bulb.

Determination and tenacity prevailed and the rest is history. But I have found that it's not just enough to to take action. You need to take "intelligent action". This has nothing to do with how smart you are, it's about being focused and sticking to a game plan.

Concentrate on the things that are working for you. Shut out the distractions as much as possible. More than likely you are like me and still work a full time job. Your time is very valuable so must make sure that you are productive with the little time you have.

This was something that I learned this year and it has helped me immensely. I easily tripled my productivity compared to what I was doing before. Have a "to do list" of your most critical action items. Turn off your email, Skype, Messenger, or anything else that might tempt you to deviate from the task at hand.

Then "Get Er Done!"

Of course, this is not easily done if you don't have a clear cut plan of attack. That is why goal setting and planning should be your number one priorities. Not only do you want to plan on a daily level, but you want to plan on a weekly, monthly, and a yearly level.

These will be your New Year's resolutions for 2010. Start big and write down your major goals for 2010 in 4 categories. Personal, Entrepreneurial, Business, and Income. You can later go back and write down what you will need to do to accomplish each goal. Once you do that you will have a huge list of action items that you can begin to add into your weekly and daily schedules.

I am not going to go into detail right now because that could be a novel in itself. I am about to get to the main reason for this post and it's already getting long.

Last year I made a comment on Garry Parkes blog. Garry is a fellow Alex Jeffreys student that has actually gone on to become an employee of Alex's. He was one of the first people in our class to really start taking action and his blog kind of became a gathering place for all the students.

The comment I made was on December 31st, 2008. Garry's post was about setting goals and attaching some kind of accountability to those goals. One of the ways to do this is to publicly announce that you are going to do something. You will then feel compelled to do what you say or you might lose credibility.

So I listed my goals for 2009 for all to see and now it's time to pay the piper and see how well I accomplished my goals. Here is a snippet copied from the comment on Garry's blog. (the annotations in red are the results)

Personal
1. Vacation this year to vist wife’s family in Venezuela. was a great success, I spent 2 weeks there and the wife and kids were there for 6 weeks. I also took a trip to Las Vegas to Alex's work shop and will be returning in 2 weeks to the second one. This time my wife is coming along and we are going to have a couple days set aside just for us.
2. Lose 80lbs. target weight is 250, currently tipping the scales at 330. I have absolutely failed miserably here. I still weigh 330. My wife and I have joined the local gym and I have a good start on this years goal which will remain the same.

Entrepreneurial
1. Create systems for all my tasks and start outsourcing. I don't quite have all the systems created that I want but I have employed the services of a few people and currently have them working on some projects.
2. Find at least 10 serious JV partners. I hosted my own JV Giveaway and created a list of JV partners plus continue to seek out new adswap partners.

Business
1. Build a mailing list of 7300 subscribers. (that’s 20 per day) My list now stands at 6300. I am about 1000 short but that is OK. The last 3 months I have been reserving my weekend adswaps for people just starting out with small lists. If I had not done this, I could have easily surpassed my goal. I just ran the stats for December and I am averaging over 45 new subscribers per day. This number only continues to get bigger so I am very happy with these results.
2. Continue to write for the Profit Pulling Project, re-brand, and distribute. I ended up only writing a couple of articles for Garry's news letter. As much as I would like to, time constraints make it unrealistic for me at this time.
3. Write my ebook series “The Web 2 Whammy” which I will use to build my list and then monetize with a follow up video series. I ended up writing an ebook on JV Giveaways instead. I am giving it away for free to build my list and am monetizing with a OTO and by using integration marketing on my download and thank you pages. I have some big plans for 2010 but will discuss that later.
4. Spend at least 1 hour a day oil rig hopping. 1/2 hour for students and 1/2 hour with Comment Kahuna. Once again I have failed miserably in this respect. I have also been slack when it comes to posting on this blog and my traffic stats reflect this. Time is a big factor but I am not making excuses. This is one thing that I should make time to do.

Income
1. To generate a minimum of $50,000 with my online business this year. I haven't tallied up the exact figures yet but I would say it's between $15,000 and $20,000. Not bad considering I was figuring in a product launch that didn't happen and I only work at this part time. The majority of my income was from affiliate promos and a direct result of my list building efforts. If you build a list, you will make money.

So you see that you will not always reach your goals. That's OK. I do think that you need to make your goals realistic but yet at the same time you have to challenge yourself. Don't be afraid to set your goals high. Make your self accountable!

I would like to help you do that right now. I am challenging you to go out on a limb and post your goals for 2010 right here on my blog. Put them out there for God and everybody to see. If that doesn't motivate you to take action then I don't know what will.

Here are mine for 2010:

Personal
1.  Lose 80lbs. target weight is 250, currently tipping the scales at 330.
2.  Take family on week long vacation to Disney World
3.  Go golfing at least twice a month. (driving range once a week minimum)

Entrepreneurial
1. Put together a team to handle all technical functions of my online business.
2. Become part of a master mind group. (or create one)
3. Begin investing in other income vehicles (stocks, real estate, etc..)
4. Continue to expand my JV base by attending live events.

Business
1. Continue giving list building #1 priority. New target is 30K by end of 2010.
2. Use PLR products to set up an affiliate program designed to build my list.
3. Post on the blog at least once a week. Start incorporating more videos.
4. Start a corporation for tax purposes and to insulate my personal assets.
5. Launch a product.

Income
1. To generate a minimum of $100,000 with my online business this year. This is what I need to do to be able to walk away from my current job and become a full time internet marketer.
